Hi! This is Mark, director of data management at Democracy Prep. I hail from Canada, the land of public healthcare, bagged milk, and Drake, but have now spent nine years in this country. I live/work in Harlem, the land of charter schools, rising rents, and the Harlem Shake. I became interested in education early on, and have worked in assessment design and NYCDOE’s school accountability/performance office. My involvement in this sector has been predicated on the belief that education, when done right, has the potential to lift communities and inspire hope.

I’m actually really excited to join the SZ Community board, precisely because we all need to do better than that. Meeting a bunch of you at DC Summit was great, and I saw great potential for partnership and collaboration on issues that were common across our networks and schools.
