Position Overview
The KIPP Foundation seeks a Technology Project Manager to play a critical role in the development and deployment of systems for the KIPP Foundation and network of schools. Technology solutions play a critical role in powering KIPP’s continued growth and equipping our network to better support our students on their journeys to and through college. Technology brings together our 6,000+ teammates nationwide, helping us work smarter, share ideas and resources, track performance and leverage data to make the right decisions.

This is an exciting role that will support KIPP’s national data systems and applications based in our KIPP Foundation San Francisco office. The Technology Project Manager will provide project planning support to the Foundation’s data and application development efforts on a number of mission-critical projects.

The Project Manager will work with business owners to define project scope, goals and deliverables; develop project plans and related documentation and manage the implementation and deployment of systems. In this role, the Project Manager will work with internal KIPP Foundation technical resources and external technical consultants, while identifying, working with and managing the expectations of designated stakeholders.

Additional examples of past and potential future projects include:

  • Knowledge management system for educators and region/school support staff to connect with each other, collaborate and share best practices
  • Redesign of KIPP Foundation website (www.kipp.org)
  • Centralized teacher recruitment system which allows sites to leverage a common system while ensuring privacy of data and autonomous application processes
  • Development of data warehouse and reports to share data with leadership across the KIPP network, as well as facilitate research and analysis.

The Technology Project Manager reports to the Sr. Director, Technology and Tech Innovation, and is located in San Francisco. He/she is a member of the Technology Team, works collaboratively with other teams across KIPP. Travel requirements are occasional, less than 10%.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•In collaboration with senior management and stakeholders, define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals
•Collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze, document, and prioritize business processes, information needs, and functional requirements to ensure the timely and accurate implementation of projects
•Coordinate evaluation of technology options and package solutions
•Develop project plans and all associated project documentation for individual projects
•Prepare and execute on communications plan within and outside of the project team
•Manage external vendor relationships
•Define key milestones to monitor and track progress of the project team in order to identify risks to project timeline and/or budget
•Proactively identify project issues and risks, and develop appropriate and timely mitigation and/or contingency plans
•Manage all aspects of system testing and quality assurance reviews including developing test plans and test cases
•Shepherd the rollout of new applications, which may include training, user documentation, and deployment support
•Prepare and communicate change management procedures to identify and manage mid-course scope changes
•Identify ongoing maintenance and administration roles post-implementation and work with Director of Technology and Technology Innovation to resource adequately
•Develop best practices, templates and tools for project execution and management
•Assist with the development of the organization’s project management policies, procedures, and tools
•Other duties assigned by manager

•Exceptional analytic, strategic, and problem-solving skills. Able to assess situations quickly from an objective point of view and facilitate resolution for all parties involved
•Proven ability to understand and communicate complex concepts or issues to non-technical stakeholders
•Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and pro-actively with a diverse group including executives, managers and subject matter experts. Must have excellent listening skills
•Excellent relationship management skills and the ability to motivate and educate both internal and external stakeholders
•Ability to work collaboratively in a faced-paced, deadline-driven, innovative and entrepreneurial work environment
•Service oriented approach and proven ability to work closely with customers to complete development projects through cross-team planning and execution. Good negotiation skills, friendliness and patience essential

Experience and Qualifications
•Minimum 3 years of hand-on, technical project management and application development experience, working with multiple vendors in a professional, deadline-driven, dynamic and technology-based environment
•Experience with multiple methodologies (waterfall, agile, etc.)
•Expertise in developing detailed plans for complex projects, with changing requirements, limited resources, and fixed deadlines
•Belief that all students, regardless of race, socio-economic status, family background or past academic performance can succeed academically
•Ability to model KIPP’s values at all times
